Paediatric and Adult Hearing Assessments
Comprehensive Hearing Assessments
Our Hearing Assessments are designed to accurately diagnose hearing conditions and tailor solutions to your specific needs. For adults and cooperative children, our diagnostic services include:
- Outer Ear Examination – A visual inspection of the ear canal and eardrum to check for any obstructions or abnormalities.
- Middle Ear Assessment – A test that evaluates the function of the middle ear, including eardrum mobility and middle ear pressure.
- Inner Ear Evaluation – A standard hearing test (audiometry) to determine hearing thresholds and identify the degree and type of hearing loss.
Services
Diagnostic Hearing Assessments
We offer detailed hearing evaluations for adults and children to accurately diagnose the type and degree of hearing loss. These assessments guide tailored treatment plans and are essential for managing hearing health effectively.
Newborn Hearing Screenings
Early detection of hearing issues is critical for language and developmental milestones. Our newborn screenings are safe, non-invasive, and designed to identify potential hearing concerns within the first weeks of life.
School Hearing screenings
We offer on-site hearing screenings for children, helping to identify hearing challenges that can impact learning, language development, and classroom participation.
Our screenings are quick, non-invasive, and aligned with school schedules to minimize disruption.
By partnering with educators, we aim to support academic success through early detection and referral for timely intervention—ensuring every child has the best opportunity to thrive in the classroom.
Assessment Services
Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)
Measures hearing sensitivity across a range of frequencies. The patient responds to tones played through headphones, helping to determine the laterality, degree and type of hearing loss (conductive, sensorineural, or mixed).
Speech Audiometry
Assesses speech detection and understanding.
Includes:
- Speech Reception Threshold (SRT): the softest level at which speech can be understood.
- Word Recognition Score (WRS): evaluates how clearly speech is heard at a comfortable volume.
Tympanometry
Tests middle ear function by measuring how the eardrum responds to changes in air pressure. It can detect fluid, perforation, stiffness, or eustachian tube dysfunction.
Acoustic Reflex Testing
Measures the reflexive contraction of the middle ear muscles in response to loud sounds. It assesses the auditory nerve pathways and middle ear status.
Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs)
Assesses cochlear (outer hair cell) function by recording sound waves produced in response to stimuli. Commonly used in newborn hearing screening.
Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
Evaluates neural activity in the auditory nerve and brainstem in response to sound. Useful for diagnosing auditory neuropathy, especially in infants or people who can’t respond behaviourally.
Auditory Steady-State Response (ASSR)
An objective test that estimates hearing thresholds using continuous modulated tones and EEG recordings. It’s especially useful for assessing hearing in infants, or individuals who can't complete traditional audiometry.
Eustachian Tube Function Test
Assesses how well the eustachian tube is opening and equalizing pressure in the middle ear. It may involve swallowing or pressure maneuvers while monitoring middle ear pressure via tympanometry.
Otoscopy
A visual examination of the ear canal and eardrum using an otoscope. It helps detect earwax blockages, infections, perforations, or abnormalities of the tympanic membrane and external auditory canal.
Vestibular Testing
Evaluates balance and inner ear function and helps to diagnose dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders.
Tinnitus Assessment & Management
We provide comprehensive evaluations for individuals experiencing tinnitus (ringing or noise in the ears). Our team works to identify underlying causes and offer personalized management strategies to help reduce the impact of tinnitus on daily life.
Ear Syringing
A safe and effective procedure used to remove excess earwax and debris from the ear canal. This service helps relieve discomfort, improve hearing clarity, and support overall ear health.
